Pablo at New Farm has provided us with many a good brunch over the past couple of years, so what better to blog about than their latest menu incarnation?
Husband and wife team Mike and Amy Bates are the owners of this delicious little place, as well as another venue nearby, Escobar. Pablo seems quite tiny from the outside, with a few larger tables visible, but there is also a small indoors section and bar like seating overlooking the street. Parking in the area can be difficult, our tip is to park further down near New Farm park and walk back up.
L and I went for a quick weekday lunch recently, and sat outdoors in the sun. We ordered coffees, a flat white and a mocha, which are made on Genovese beans. The accompanying spoons are little adorable collectable souvenir spoons.
The breakfast menu is all day to 2.30pm, but there is a short lunch menu starting at 11am. It was difficult to decide which way to go but we stuck to the breakfast menu. L had the very moreish and glorious Potato, beetroot and feta hashcake with citrus glazed sticky bacon, baby kale, tomato kasundi, minted labne, free range fried egg and toasted Turkish soldiers. The highlights were the crunchy hash cake and the very deliciously sweet slabs of sticky bacon.
I had what could only be described as a work of art; Brioche French Toast with homemade burnt butter and pecan icecream, spiced poached pear, cacao and coconut rubble, maple syrup and a large cloud of fairy floss on top. I was in a bubble of pure food heaven consuming this dish, and magically I managed to squeeze it all in without leaving a bite. For those who love a sugary breakfast, this is a must. Was it on the verge of being too sweet? Probably, but I didn’t even care.
Pablo is one of those places that is a go-to, always good. The latest menu is their best yet!
